L.M. Ericsson said it has won a $370 million contract extension with third-generation wireless carrier 3 to supply core, radio and transmission equipment and related services. The contract covers Sweden, Denmark, Norway and optionally Finland, according to Ericsson.

PalmOne Inc. said it opened a retail store in a mall in San Jose, Calif., designed specifically to sell its line of Treo smart phones. PalmOne also operates 13 other retail outlets nationwide, which sell its smart phone and personal digital assistant devices. In other handset news, Motorola Inc. said RadioShack will exclusively offer its V260. The handset, which supports Verizon Wireless service, will sell for $50 with rebates.

Wireless enterprise company AirClic said it closed its second round of venture funding, which was led by Motorola Ventures. AirClic did not say how much cash the round generated. AirClic makes technology for mobile workers to wirelessly access corporate information.

MicroTek Inc. said it has won a contract to provide training facilities and logistical support to smooth the merger between Cingular Wireless L.L.C. and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. MicroTek said it has been partnering with IBM Global Services to train more than 65,000 staff of both carriers in 160 facilities located in over 100 cities.

Alcatel Corp. said it has won a contract with Telefonica Moviles to deploy and integrate a video gateway solution into the carrier’s third-generation network in Spain. This will enable the wireless carrier to provide services such as video calls between 3G mobile handsets and fixed PCs and person-to-machine video applications such as mobile tele-surveillance like “nanny cams” or video mailboxes, said Alcatel. The French company said the solution makes “possible video communications between any mobile and fixed terminal and even between terminals with different video protocols.”
