Recurrent Software Solutions Inc. introduced its VersaBill automated bill formatting system. The product allows companies to streamline their electronic billing in a format that meets their specifications, said the company. Once the electronic format is established, VersaBill creates code to parse the format for use by customers. CommASIC, a new company to the wireless space, announced its Wireless Broadband Signal Processor architecture. WBSP is specifically designed for high-performance broadband applications and is programmable, giving it multimode capability, said the company. The architecture offers power consumption improvements and smaller die size. NEC Engineering Ltd., in conjunction with NEC Electronics Corp. and Chipcon AS, announced a module for 802.15.4 and ZigBeeT wireless standards. The module includes the CC2420 RF transceiver from Chipcon and the 78KO/KF1+ low-power 8-bit flash microcontroller from NEC Electronics. The module enables wireless communications via a physical layer and media access layer. Development kits and two ZigBee-ready wireless modules and software development tools are expected to be available in February. www.nec.com

Infone, a personal assistant telephone service, introduced its “no software” synchronization capabilities. Infone’s service is enhanced directory assistance and personal assistant services combined with calling capability in the United States and Canada. Network Chemistry, which provides advanced RF security solutions, said a new version of its RFprotect Enterprise wireless intrusion protection system is available. New features include active intrusion prevention, advanced RF signal analysis and an enhanced reporting engine for auditing industry policy compliance, said the company. The product includes RFshield Module, which defends against identified rogue APs and malicious client devices. This allows the system operator to immediately disable a device until it can physically be isolated and removed from the network. Also included is the RFanalysis Module, which analyzes RF signals and monitors how 802.11 traffic is affected by signal degradation and noise across the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Finally, the new version now generates pass/no-pass compliance reports to facilitate auditing of an enterprise wireless domain’s compliance to specific industry policy. Developer Tegic Communications launched the latest version of its popular predictive text software for mobile devices. Tegic unveiled T9 7.2, an embedded program designed to make messaging more efficient for short message service users. The multi-lingual software predicts the words text messagers are trying to type, allowing users to form words without pushing a button multiple times for one letter. (For instance, pushing “5” three times to type the letter “L”.) The upgraded version of the software predicts words based on past usage and supports popular SMS abbreviations. A wholly owned subsidiary of America Online Inc., Tegic is trying to entice carriers to promote the product by stressing the added revenues that text messaging generates.
