LONDON-Mobile device management is a daunting task for any company, but it is particularly difficult for smaller businesses, according to Strategy Analytics’ “Market Outlook: Strategic Perspectives on Enterprise Mobile Device Management” report.
The report examines MDM solutions that allow information technology professionals to control remote wireless devices and focuses on the key features of ease of integration and support for a variety of devices. The report also discusses how MDM players can help remove the device management barrier to wireless adoption, which includes problems such as locking down lost or stolen devices, remotely enforcing data encryption and synchronization issues.
According to Strategy Analytics, the MDM market could grow into a $5 billion global market by 2010.
“Early enterprise adoption of mobility has either been the result of proactive, well-considered strategies granting wireless access to process workers or reactive short-term measures in response to the uncoordinated purchases of wireless devices by knowledge workers,” said Cliff Raskind, director of the Global Wireless Practice at Strategy Analytics. “In both cases, IT managers have to make critical policy decisions to protect the integrity of enterprise IT services. Unlike PCs, this is exacerbated by unclear lines of device ownership and the mobility inherent in wireless devices.”
