Cingular adds Motorola MPx220 to portfolio

Cingular Wireless added another Motorola Inc. phone to its line-up of exclusive devices with the release of the Windows-powered MPx220 for $300 with a two-year service contract.

The quadband, clamshell-style phone features Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Mobile operating system as well as Bluetooth, an integrated 1.2-megapixel camera and a Mini SD card slot capable of adding 512 megabytes.

“Together with Microsoft and Motorola, we are delivering on the industry’s vision of moving the most popular computer applications into the hands of our customers,” said David Christopher, vice president of product management for Cingular. “We’re creating devices and services that make businesses more productive and life much simpler.”

Cingular is currently the exclusive provider of the Motorola Razr phone.

In other Cingular phone news, the carrier is selling the Sony Ericsson Z500a for $100 with a two-year contract. The clamshell-style phone supports EDGE connections and features an integrated digital camera. Cingular is also selling the Siemens SX66 wireless personal digital assistant, which features Microsoft’s operating system. The device, selling for $550 with a two-year contract, features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and quadband GSM connectivity.
