LG claims top spot in U.S. CDMA sales

SAN DIEGO-LG Electronics Co. Ltd. boasted of its gains in the U.S. handset market, claiming the top spot for CDMA sales in the third quarter.

According to research firm IDC, LG slipped past rival Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. to score the No. 1 CDMA spot with 27 percent of the market. In GSM sales, LG ranked fourth with 12 percent of the market in the third quarter. The company ranked fourth in overall U.S. sales.

“Strengthening our presence in the GSM market is one of LG’s foremost priorities for 2004 and will continue to be a major initiative into 2005,” said Jon Maron, director of marketing communications for LG. “The recent launch of the L1400 for Cingular Wireless, bolstered by the successful debuts of the G4010 and G4050 for Cingular and the G4011 for AT&T Wireless earlier this year, has extended LG’s GSM momentum, and positions LG to win a significantly larger portion of the GSM market share into 2005.”
