Qualcomm invests in content company Digital Orchid

SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. made a strategic investment in wireless application company Digital Orchid. The companies did not disclose the amount of the investment.

Digital Orchid sells applications working on Qualcomm’s BREW application download service. The company said its revenue has grown 600 percent this year, totaling more than 6 million content purchases. The company sells Nascar, NHL and other branded applications in the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua and Guatemala.

“Digital Orchid is excited to have Qualcomm’s support in delivering our products and technology to the rapidly growing global CDMA market,” said Georges Daou, Digital Orchid’s founder and chairman. “This investment will help us reach the over 200 million consumers worldwide who are interested in compelling wireless data applications. This partnership expands and leverages the CDMA footprint in more than 80 countries.”
