DoCoMo partners with carriers in Australia, Singapore on video calls

TOKYO-NTT DoCoMo Inc. announced partners for its third-generation video service called World Call.

DoCoMo’s FOMA video customers will be able to exchange video-phone calls with users of compatible W-CDMA services in Australia offered by Hutchison 3G Australia beginning Dec. 21. In addition, DoCoMo has partnered with Singapore’s StarHub for video-phone services, enabling FOMA users to exchange videophone calls with StarHub customers in addition to Singapore Telecom Mobile users.

Users will dial a country code and the local mobile number to place a video-phone call. A call between Japan and Singapore or Australia will cost about $3 per minute.

FOMA customers in Japan can already place video-phone calls to customers of DoCoMo’s partner companies in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Singapore.
