IP Wireless wins Swedish customer

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-Swedish company Atenit said it will deploy a UMTS TDD network using technology developed by U.S.-based IP Wireless. Atenit, a wireless broadband carrier, will deploy the network over a six-month period with full coverage expected in the Kalmar region by July.

Initial subscriber devices will be plug-and-play desktop modems that use either USB or Ethernet to support PCs and local area network gateways, said IP Wireless. The modems support downlink speeds of up to 3 megabits per second.

“The Kalmar region is unique in its initiative to make the municipalities join force to invest in a state of the art wireless broadband network for the benefit of the citizens and the corporate environment. We are also proud to announce signed agreements with three leading international telecom and Internet providers as service providers in this wireless broadband network,” said Torvald Bohlin, chairman of the Atenit Group.

In addition to Sweden, IP Wireless said its UMTS TDD technology is being deployed in five markets-the United Kingdom, Germany, Southeast Asia, New Zealand and Australia.
