Wireless at CES features coats, Wi-Fi handsets

LAS VEGAS-Below is a quick rundown of some of the numerous new gadgets announced at the Consumer Electronics Show:

c Motorola Inc. announced a series of new, advanced wireless handsets scheduled for release in the next few months. The company’s E815 phone supports CDMA EV-DO technology, Bluetooth, a 1.3-megapixel camera, MP3 player and 40 megabytes of internal memory. Motorola also showed off several new Bluetooth products, including a headset, a USB computer adapter and several car kits.

c In other Motorola news, the company said it is working with snowboard company Burton to develop mobile-phone-friendly jackets, hats and helmets for snowboarders. The products, scheduled for release later this year, will feature sewn-in speakers and microphones so that snowboarders can answer calls without digging in their pockets for their mobile phones. For example, the prototype jacket features a pocket for a Bluetooth-capable mobile phone, which will then transmit calls to Bluetooth-capable speakers sewn into the jacket’s hood. Users will be able to manage calls using a Bluetooth-capable control panel sewn into the jacket’s sleeve.

The device offers up to 80 hours of standby time and three to four hours of talk time, and can be used in any 802.11b hot spot.
