Siemens to reduce wireline staff by 1,000

MUNICH-Siemens said it will cut more than 1,000 jobs in its wireline business, moves the company said would help it focus on its core business as well as growth areas such as Voice over IP, Ethernet access, applications and services for broadband networks, or Home Entertainment.

In its Fixed Networks Division, Siemens said it will cut 600 jobs in Germany and 650 outside the country. An additional 100 jobs will be “adjusted” at the group’s corporate functions in Munich by 2006, a move the company said had already been announced last year in connection with the establishment of the group.
