OTTAWA-Canadian regulatory agency Industry Canada said it has conditionally assigned 306 wireless spectrum licenses in the 2.3 GHz and 3.5 GHz spectrum bands to 12 companies through a recently completed wireless spectrum auction. The auction, which concluded on Jan. 27 and generated $45.3 million in revenues, included spectrum that the government agency said would allow expanded and enhanced wireless broadband access and services in both rural and urban areas across Canada.
Top bidders included Telus Corp. with 130 licenses, Bell Canada with 55 licenses and Rogers Wireless Inc. with 40 licenses. Successful bidders are eligible to receive the licenses upon final payment.
