SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. said it has entered into CDMA2000 agreements with two companies, while a carrier has launched CDMA2000 EV-DO technology in Venezuela.
The CDMA proprietor said it entered separate licensing agreements with BenQ Corp of Taiwan and Axesstel Inc. here to develop, manufacture and sell mobile CDMA2000 subscriber units. BenQ’s deal also includes wideband-CDMA, TD-SCDMA and CDMAOne technologies.
“It is important for us to have the ability to develop 3G CDMA products to be able to meet the growing demand for advanced wireless data services,” said Irwin S. Chen, vice president and general manager of BG Networking and Communications at BenQ.
Separately Movilnet Venezuela said it has launched its commercial CDMA2000 1X EV-DO services under the marketing name of ABA Movil.
The launch will enable the carrier to offer high-speed data applications and services to its subscribers. “Movilnet will also be able to provide a fixed-wireless service for customers’ home or office, meeting the needs for a cost-efficient, secure connection equivalent to broadband for accessing the Internet at anytime,” the carrier.
