BEDMINSTER, N.J.-The wireless industry continues to try to play Cupid this Valentine’s Day with a slew of content and data offerings.
Verizon Wireless announced the availability of dozens of love-song ringtones to cash in on the occasion, offering everything from Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe” to Beck’s “I’m a Loser.” Tunes are available for the carrier’s Get it Now subscribers at $3 each or $10 for four ringtones.
Verizon also encouraged love-struck users to send text messages to the objects of their affection.
Meanwhile, mobile marketer Enpocket said it is teaming with Sprint PCS to bring Match.com to the carrier’s Vision subscribers. Match.com Mobile allows wireless users to create profiles, upload photos, search profiles and chat with potential soul mates.
Enpocket, which also provides the service to Cingular Wireless and Nextel subscribers, will promote its new Sprint offering with a free one-month trial and sweepstakes.
“Consumer usage of the Match.com Mobile application is continuing to rise dramatically,” said Mike Baker, Enpocket’s chief operations officer. “We believe the mobile phone is a powerful tool for finding and communicating with people sharing similar interests.”
Content aggregator Flycell is hawking ringtones, games and heart-themed wallpaper to mark the occasion. The company is also offering animated content featuring moving teddy bears, rabbits and ducks.
Lastly, Kangourouge, a French Internet company, unveiled an effort to bring potential couples together via Bluetooth. The company launched Proxidating, a software offering that allows users to create profiles of themselves and add photos. When compatible profiles cross paths, the users’ phones ring, and photos and descriptions appear on the handsets.
