Intel Corp. announced three agreements to pursue its WiMAX technology and promote its XScale and mobile technologies.
The chip bellwether said it has entered an alliance with Alcatel Corp. to develop, integrate and conduct interoperability testing for Alcatel’s network infrastructure solution and Intel’s WiMAX client silicon.
This cooperation will cover residential, nomadic and mobile solutions based on the 802.16e standard, according to the companies.
With its XScale technology, Intel said it successfully tested and ran applications based on Qualcomm’s BREW solution on Intel’s single-chip GSM/GPRS wireless processor.
The trial was conducted on FL Telecom GSM/GPRS handsets.
Intel and carrier Orange plc also worked with French smart card provider Axalto to release a new third-generation chip, which the companies expect to make smart cards 20 times faster than existing 3G smart cards.
