Ecuity to offer VoIP over Wi-Fi through Boingo deal

Voice over Internet Protocol voice provider Ecuity Inc. reported an agreement with Boingo Wireless Inc. and TeleSym Inc. to jointly market a VoIP over Wi-Fi service.

The companies said the arrangement will use Boingo’s more than 13,000 Wi-Fi hot spots to access Ecuity’s Smart Call mobile VoIP service using TeleSym’s SymPhone software for making voice calls from mobile computers and Pocket PC-compatible devices. The service will target mobile professionals and businesses worldwide.

To kick off the marketing effort, customers can access a free thirty-day trial and 100 minutes of the service at www.ecuity.net/boingo.

Skype Technologies S.A. launched a similar service last year designed to run over Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC-enabled devices. The free software allows users to make calls to other mobile Skype users free or to outside numbers at local rates.
