RICHARDSON, Texas-Australian high-speed wireless provider Unwired Australia Pty Ltd. said it is seeing strong customer up-take of its wireless broadband service in Sydney, Australia, using non-line-of-sight technology from Navini Networks Inc.
“We grabbed 17 percent market share of new broadband users in Sydney,” said David Spence, president and chief executive officer of Unwired. “That’s almost 14,000 in less than five months.”
Unwired’s initial Sydney network has 70 sites covering more than 1,200 square miles and 3.5 million potential Sydney users, making it the largest network of its type in the world. A major component of Unwired’s success has been its strong channel strategy. Its largest channel is retail with 63 percent of new customers.
“The fact that we offer a simple, portable and competitively priced broadband service is attracting a strong customer base,” Spence added.
Unwired has targeted Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and other key regions in Australia for service expansion. That expansion will take place after the Sydney customer base is established.
