ST. CLOUD, Minn.-Verizon Wireless said it has completed the purchase of Cellular 2000 of St. Cloud from St. Cloud Wireless Holdings L.L.C. and that it has begun offering Verizon Wireless branded services to Cellular 2000’s approximately 42,000 subscribers.
The transaction, which was announced earlier this year, included Cellular 2000’s cellular spectrum license covering 250,000 potential customers in Benton, Stearns and Sherburne counties, which are adjacent to the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. Verizon Wireless also acquired Cellular 2000’s network and operations assets for the St. Cloud market.
Verizon Wireless added that it plans to update the existing CDMA2000 network cell sites and transition operations to its 1x technology by the end of the year.
