BELLEVUE, Wash.-Nextel Communications Inc. extended its current contract with modular radio solutions provider RadioFrame Networks Inc. to include a multi-million dollar purchase of additional MC-Series Base Stations solutions and RadioBlade transceivers designed to enhance capacity on the carrier’s iDEN-based network.
RadioFrame said the solution will be used for several applications, including base station hoteling that leverages existing fiber links to distribute network capacity to multiple locations. RadioFrame added that the MC-Series solution also can extend in-building coverage in public locations, as well as expand coverage during emergency deployments and temporary events.
“This investment will help us enhance coverage and capacity for our customers, while also providing a platform that supports future network technologies,” said Len Cascioli, vice president of engineering at Nextel, which has announced plans to merge with Sprint Corp. and migrate its current network to CDMA-based technologies.
RadioFrame said it would deliver the equipment during the next two years.
