Phone makers release new wares, iTunes phone not on list

Phone makers released a variety of high-tech wares in conjunction with the CeBIT show. Among those making announcements were:

  • Motorola Inc., which showed off a range of new handsets. The company unveiled its new 3G V1150, a third-generation phone with a 2-megapixel camera, music player and Bluetooth. The company also showed off its 3G V1050, with similar features, which will be sold exclusively through Vodafone Group plc. Motorola also unveiled several mid-range products featuring Bluetooth, push to talk and other features.

Motorola had also planned to announce its long-anticipated iTunes phone, but reneged at the last minute due to an internal marketing decision. A company spokeswoman said Motorola would release the phone closer to its actual commercial release date, which she declined to give. The statement contrasts with reports that Motorola delayed the announcement due to carrier requests.

  • Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. showed off several new devices, including its SGH-i300 music phone. The phone features an internal hard disk drive with 3 gigabytes of internal storage as well as a 1.3-megapixel camera and support for external TransFlash memory.

  • German electronics manufacturing company ITM Technology announced its new Hagenuk smart phone for the European market. The smart phone runs the Palm operating system from PalmSource Inc.

Most devices announced at CeBIT are intended for the European market, but some may be modified to sell in North American countries.
