HANNOVER, Germany-Four wireless infrastructure suppliers announced contract wins with carriers around the world.
Lucent Technologies Inc. said it won a contract with T-Systems and Caymanone to provide a third-generation network in the Cayman Islands.
The 1x EV-DO network will enable Caymanone to provide mobile data services in the islands. T-Systems is operating under a contract with Caymanone to build, operate and maintain the network.
In addition, Telefonica Moviles selected Lucent’s PSAX Multiservice Media Gateways to expand capacity by aggregating voice and data traffic from its UMTS network.
Nortel Networks Ltd. said Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd. is upgrading and expanding its wireless infrastructure from Nortel under a $50 million, two-year contract. The project is expected to expand coverage and improve quality of wireless voice and data services.
Nortel will expand and upgrade TSTT’s GSM/GPRS wireless network, deploying both core and access equipment, including base stations, switching and EDGE technology.
For its part, L.M. Ericsson said it was selected by Turkish wireless carrier Avea to upgrade its GSM network. Ericsson will merge two existing GSM networks, become the sole supplier of the core network and upgrade the existing radio access network with EDGE technology under the agreement.
The value of the agreement was not disclosed.
Chinese supplier ZTE Corp. said it won a GSM contract from Algerian mobile operator ATM Mobilis. The contract covers the western region of Algeria. Equipment for the contract includes base stations systems, antennae, microwave gear and a power supply system.
