NEW ORLEANS-Verizon Wireless said it will offer its V-Cast subscribers 26 original mobisodes of the hit TV show “The Simple Life: Interns” starring Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.
The mobisodes will feature never-before-seen footage developed especially for V-Cast. Subscribers will pay $1 to download each episode in addition to the $15 monthly access fee for V-Cast.
Eight episodes will be available April 6, and then two new mobisodes each week will be available in conjunction with the TV series.
“20th Century Fox Television is delighted to offer the first mobisodes based on a network comedy series available in a format designed specifically for mobile, which we believe will help this hit television show reach an even wider audience,” said Lucy Hood, senior vice president of content and marketing for News Corp.
Verizon Wireless also announced it will offer Nascar.com To Go as premium content for $1 per clip. The content will include updated video clips including behind-the-scenes footage of racing action and driver interviews.
“Nascar is the fastest-growing sport in North America, and our relationship with Digital Orchid delivers the ultimate in entertainment for Nascar fans to the palm of their hands,” said John Stratton, Verizon Wireless vice president and chief marketing officer.
Digital Orchid is the exclusive distributor of Nascar.com To Go. Verizon Wireless rival Nextel Communications Inc. has a 10-year, $750 million sponsorship deal with Nascar that kicked off in 2004.
Taking a not-so-subtle swipe at rival Cingular Wireless L.L.C.’s advertising tag line, “raising the bar,” Verizon Wireless President Denny Strigl said, “V-Cast gives Verizon Wireless subscribers their favorite music, movies, sports, news and games in the palms of their hands, and unlike other wireless video and multimedia services available today, V-Cast is smooth and clear. As far as third-generation services for consumers are concerned, Verizon Wireless hasn’t just raised the bar-we’ve vaulted over it.”
