PokerRoom.com gambles on interactive version for cell phones

NEW YORK-PokerRoom.com announced plans to launch an interactive cell-phone poker application April 11.

The application will allow users to play “Texas Hold ‘Em” for real or “play” money. Players sign up for the game at the company’s Web site, and the game is then sent to their phones for download. Users play other players rather than a computer.

“With television shows, online poker’s accessibility and celebrity fans, poker-“Texas Hold ‘Em” in particular-has become America’s new favorite pastime,” said Patrik Selin, chief executive officer of PokerRoom.com. “Online sites such as PokerRoom.com first brought the game to the masses, and now with availability on cell phones, the game is available anywhere, anytime. The advance of cell-phone graphics makes the experience almost identical to that of playing online, and I think people will enjoy taking the game on the road.”
