BELLEVUE, Wash.-Western Wireless Corp. said it signed an agreement with Wireless Services Corp. to provide WAP 2.0 access to more than 1.3 million Cellular One customers in 19 states and in a separate announcement announced the availability of the CDM-8930 handset, a swivel clamshell camera phone from UTStarcom Personal Communications.
“Our customers will be amazed by the richness of content they will experience when accessing the Web to get local, national and international news; financial and money reports; travel and weather updates; sports scores; entertainment and music information; search tools and directories; and more,” said Stephen Stribley, executive director of product management and marketing at Western Wireless, operator of Cellular One, about the relationship with Wireless Services.
The carrier said its customers will be able to view enhanced graphics and text content from their handsets as they access e-mail, the Internet, instant messaging and more.
On the handset front, Western Wireless said the release of the CDM-8930 marks the first megapixel and video handset from Cellular One and coincides with the company’s new “Go One Better” campaign designed to create new excitement and interest for the Cellular One brand.
“As a camcorder, camera and phone device rolled into one, the 8930 is an ideal converged device to showcase Cellular One’s new services,” said Philip Christopher, president of UTStarcom Personal Communications Division.
The CDM-8930 is available for $150 with a two-year service agreement.
