Answers.com readies wireless search service

WESLEY HILLS, N.Y.-The creators of Answers.com announced the launch of a test version of its Internet search engine for wireless devices.

GuruNet Corp., which owns Answers.com, announced Tuesday that users of Web-based devices such as the Treo, BlackBerry and Windows CE-supported handhelds can access the portal to receive word definitions, encyclopedia entries and other facts. The mobile version delivers specially formatted information designed for mobile-phone screens.

“The rapidly increasing use of mobile phones has made the accessibility of reliable reference on-the-go a natural extension for us,” said Bob Rosenschein, founder and chief executive officer of GuruNet.
