CRANBURY, N.J.-Broadbeam Corp. said Boeing has selected its ExpressQ system to wirelessly enable its new Electronic Flight Bag technology.
The Electronic Flight Bag gives flight crews critical information, including Jeppesen charts, manuals for fault reporting and operations, minimum equipment lists and logbooks. It also helps crews track onboard performance, calculate speed and engine settings, and monitor cabin and ground activity.
Broadbeam’s ExpressQ provides a secure, authenticated Wi-Fi port to enable direct communications between airlines and airports, said the company. Broadbeam developed a wireless architectural implementation plan for EFB and customized its ExpressQ application to fit Boeing’s requirements, including allowing both the pilot and co-pilot to use different applications over the same wireless connection.
“For Boeing, wirelessly enabling the EFB meant more than simply establishing an airplane-to-airline connection. The critical need was to ensure not only the efficiency of its flight operations, but the safety of its pilots and passengers,” said Janet Boudris, chief executive officer of Broadbeam.
