Cellular3G announces HSDPA processor called TopHat

LEXINGTON, Mass.-Cellular3G Inc. announced a full-rate High Speed Downlink Packet Access solution, which the company said is a natural migration from its commercial UMTS Rel.4 UE baseband processor called TopHat.

Alex Lax, the company’s chief technology officer, said the new HSDPA design meets 3GPP FDD standard releases 3 and 4, and the company is working toward meeting requirements of releases 5 and 6 with a working FPGA. Release 5 will be available by mid-year, said Lax.

Cellular3G is offering the product to semiconductor companies and wireless device manufacturers that want to license the design or order custom-made UMTS UE baseband chips that comply with releases 99, 4, 5 and 6. The company also is seeking protocol stack and application platform partners to collaborate on the HSDPA solution.
