ALEXANDRIA, Va.-PCIA said more than $750 million was spent relocating about 3,600 microwave links under its Microwave Clearinghouse program.
The clearinghouse, a collaborative venture created in 1996 among PCS carriers that operated under the PCIA umbrella, provided cost-sharing activities for microwave relocation in the 1850 to 1990 MHz band. The clearinghouse cost-sharing activities officially sunset April 5 pursuant to Federal Communications Commission rules.
“For the carriers who initially cleared the spectrum at their own expense, the cost-sharing process identified more than $400 million of reimbursement opportunities to be paid by subsequent benefiting licensees in the PCS band,” said Chris Holt, manager of operations of the PCIA Microwave Clearinghouse. “By designing fair and straightforward procedures, PCIA delivered a smooth process that ultimately expedited deployment of more than 150,000 PCS base stations.”
