True Position offers rural carriers outsourced location solutions

BERWYN, Pa.-Location services company True Position released a new service it said will allow rural wireless carriers to outsource wireless location applications. TruePosition will host the location offering, and said it will meet Phase II of the Federal Communication Commission’s E-911 mandate, which requires wireless carriers to provide precise location information for incoming emergency calls.

TruePosition said the offering will absorb the majority of maintenance and operational activity, significantly reducing the cost and burden of ownership for wireless carriers.

In other location news, Trace Technologies L.L.C. released its new Trace asset tag, which the company said will allow users to quickly and easily locate critical assets and people in environments where conventional global positioning system loses accuracy. The system combines Qualcomm Inc.’s SnapTrack Wireless Assisted-GPS, the Trace Asset Tag and ReFLEX paging networks and will be available starting in June.

Users will be able to make a location request via the Internet, and the location response from the Asset Tag can be viewed as a street address on a map.
