RESTON, Va.-Nextel Communications Inc. has been named to the BusinessWeek 50, which lists the top-performing companies of the Standard & Poor’s 500, the carrier said Thursday. Nextel ranked 9th on the list.
Nextel, which ranked 87th in last year’s poll, cited its push-to-talk service as well as an average per-subscriber revenue of $68 per month for the jump in ranking. BusinessWeek 50’s performance measurement model evaluates 10 criteria of S&P companies, examining both 12-month and three-year sales and earnings growth.
“I am very proud of the strategic focus and dedication of our more than 19,000 employees who have helped us earn this tremendous honor,” said Tim Donahue, Nextel’s president and chief executive officer.
