Companies to release music memory card for phones

LONDON-Technology company ROK Player and music portal Ministry of Sound announced plans to release a multimedia memory card (MMC) for handsets that can hold 20 songs with corresponding music videos.

The offering, which comes to market next week, will be pre-loaded with content from artists including Eric Prydz, Cabin Crew, Boogie Pimps and Benny Benassi. Music fans can use headphones to listen to the music-only files or can watch the videos on the phone like a DVD.

A fully loaded MMC will cost about $28, the U.K.-based companies said. The card is compatible with more than a dozen Nokia phones as well as the Siemens SX-1.

“We have always been extremely successful with albums, singles and video content, and now we can offer the entire package as one,” said Matt Dicks, head of digital marketing at Ministry of Sound. “The use of a mobile phone as a musical device means we are pre-empting the future convergence of technology when mobiles, MP3 and DVD players will become one.”
