Americans average 6 wireless products, study finds

NEW YORK-Americans use an average of six wireless products powered by rechargeable batteries in their daily lives, according to a new study by NOP World.

The poll, conducted on behalf of the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corp., indicates U.S. consumers use twice as many such devices-including cell phones, computers, digital cameras and power tools-as five years ago. Further, U.S. wireless-phone users have an average of 2.6 phones in their possession, while more than one-third have three or more phones.

The nonprofit RBRC operates a recycling program that allows users to discard old mobile phones at 30,000 sites across North America.

“People are growing increasingly reliant on rechargeable batteries to power their daily lives,” said Ralph Millard, executive vice president of RBRC. “As this reliance grows, so does the need to recycle the rechargeable batteries found in these products.”
