HONG KONG-Chinese wireless company Tom Online Inc. announced plans to sell 18 percent of its holdings in Indiagames Ltd. to Cisco Systems Inc. and Macromedia Inc.
The two California-based companies will pay $4 million for a combined stake in the gaming publisher, which distributes titles through 100 carriers around the world. Indiagames’ portfolio includes branded titles like “The Day after Tomorrow,” “Jurassic Park,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Predator.”
Tom, which provides mobile content and services to Chinese wireless users, will retain 62 percent of the Mumbai, India-based publisher. Indiagames’ original shareholders hold a 19-percent stake in the company.
“We now have Chinese, Indian and American investors, all leaders in their respective verticals,” said Vishal Gondal, founder and chief executive officer of Indiagames. “This combination is really very unique and will surely help accelerate our global growth plans, keeping us on the cutting edge of mobile, broadband and Internet technology.”
