CHICAGO-PCTel Inc. said it signed a contract with NTT DoCoMo Inc. to develop and customize client software for converged handsets from Motorola Inc.
According to the deal, PCTel will port its handset-based connection manager to Symbian-enabled handsets that can operate on both Wi-Fi and third-generation networks. The client will enable data connections over Wi-Fi networks in both DoCoMo’s domestic service as well as with its roaming partner networks worldwide, said the company. DoCoMo users also can access the Internet on the company’s FOMA 3G network and GPRS networks outside Japan.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
