Alaska Communications wireless revenues rise

ANCHORAGE, Alaska-Alaska Communications Systems Group Inc. posted a 47-percent increase in wireless revenues during the first quarter from $11.6 million in 2004 to $17.1 million this year. The company noted wireless revenues accounted for 22 percent of its $77.4 million in revenues during the first quarter compared with 15.4 percent of the previous year’s $75.5 million in revenues.

Net customer additions nearly doubled from 974 subscribers during the first quarter of 2004 to 1,622 subscribers this year despite an increase in customer churn from 1.7 percent last year to 2.4 percent this year. ACS ended the quarter with 102,279 total customers, including 5,545 resale subscribers.

Average revenue per user also increased from $40.30 during the first quarter of 2004 to $48.65 this year, which included $3.37 in credits from being granted competitive eligible telecommunications carrier status during the first quarter.
