Alamosa reports improved revenues, narrows loss

LUBBOCK, Texas-Sprint Corp. wireless affiliate Alamosa Holdings Inc. reported $267.8 million in first-quarter revenues, which was a 51.5-percent improvement compared with the $176.7 million the carrier posted during the first quarter of 2004. Alamosa noted that its first quarter 2005 results included $44.7 million in revenue from recently acquired AirGate PCS Inc.’s results between Feb. 16 and the end of the quarter.

Consolidated net losses also improved from $15.8 million during the first quarter of 2004, a loss of 17 cents per share, to a loss of $3.1 million this year, or a loss of 2 cents per share. On a standalone basis, Alamosa said it generated $7.6 million in net income during the first quarter of this year while AirGate posted a $6.3 million net loss.

Alamosa previously reported a consolidated 65,000 net customer additions during the first quarter of this year, and it ended the quarter with 1.395 million total customers. Customer churn was also previously reported, with a slight drop in consolidated churn from 2.4 percent last year to 2.3 percent this year.
