Best Buy gets one-month exclusive on Sprint 2-megapixel phone

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-Sprint announced it will sell the advanced MM-A800 by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a 2-megapixel camera phone, for $350 with a rebate. The sliding-style phone will be available exclusively through retailer Best Buy for one month and later through additional retail outlets. It is also available through Sprint’s Web site.

“The MM-A800 by Samsung exemplifies the continuing consumer trend to converge the functionality of consumer electronic devices with wireless handsets,” said John Garcia, Sprint’s senior vice president for sales and distribution. “The delivery of the first 2-megapixel phone to the U.S. market reinforces Sprint’s position to deliver expert technology from Samsung and offer leading data services with Picture Mail, Sprint TV, music and games.”

The high-end phone features a 2-megapixel digital camera that can record up to 30 second of video and can also scan business cards and install the information directly into the phone’s address book. Camera-phone pictures can be printed through PictBridge technology. The device also features a Transflash memory card slot, a digital music player and voice recognition technology from VoiceSignal Technologies.
