WARREN, N.J.-Prepaid mobile virtual network operator Virgin Mobile USA L.L.C. launched a new pricing plan that the company said was geared toward its higher-usage subscribers.
The new plan allows subscribers to pay a flat rate of 35 cents per day to receive 10-cent per-minute calling rates all day. The company said the new plan will join its original 25/10 rate plan that charged 25 cents per minute for the first 10 minutes of each day and 10 cents per minute for the rest of the day. Both plans will continue as no-contract, prepaid offerings.
“Too often in this industry, more options equal more confusion,” said Dan Schulman, chief executive officer of Virgin Mobile USA. “We’re about demystifying wireless for the youth market, while offering a great product and service experience. This new pricing not only offers clear value and a smart complement to our 25/10 pricing, it’s intentionally straightforward and easy for our customers to understand.”
Verizon Wireless recently launched a similar pricing scheme for its Inpulse prepaid service that charges customers a flat-rate of 99 cents per day for 10-cent per minute calling, free in-network calling and free weekend calling.
Virgin Mobile USA, which is a joint venture between Richard Branson’s Virgin Group plc and Sprint Corp., currently serves more than 3 million customers and is considered the leading domestic MVNO.
