COSTA MESA, Calif.-More than 16.4 million new users signed up to CDMA networks during the first quarter, according to the CDMA Development Group.
The total number of CDMA subscribers stands at 256.6 million, said CDG. Perry LaForge, executive director of the organization, said CDG expects the CDMA subscriber base to reach 300 million by year-end, with 70 percent of those subscribers having access to third-generation CDMA2000 technologies. Currently, 168.4 million subscribers used 3G CDMA2000 networks, said the group.
Asia remains the largest CDMA market with 109.5 million subscribers, followed by North America with 97.3 million subscribers. Latin America is the fastest-growing CDMA region, increasing 38 percent to 45.7 million users when compared with the first quarter of 2004.
