Cingular Wireless said it will directly sell Good Technology’s wireless e-mail service to its corporate accounts.
The carrier will be the first operator in North America to directly offer GoodLink, which features continuous two-way synchronization of Microsoft Outlook functions, including e-mail, calendar, contacts, notes and tasks. The announcement is seen as a major win for Good, one of a handful of companies looking to tap a market dominated by Canadian mobile e-mail provider Research in Motion Ltd.
Until Tuesday’s announcement, Good had independently marketed its wares to wireless users. The deal gives Good its first carrier partner as well as access to the nation’s largest subscriber base.
Cingular is one of five U.S. carriers that actively sell RIM’s BlackBerry, which remains the device of choice for business users.
Shares of RIM hiccuped early Tuesday following the announcement, but quickly recovered. By mid-day Tuesday, the stock was up 89 cents on the day, trading at $81.26 on the Nasdaq.
