DENVER-Chase Bank U.S.A. launched a contactless payment program, sending radio frequency identification-equipped credit cards to more than 500,000 Colorado customers.
The program, which the company calls “blink,” allows users to hold the card near a point-of-sale terminal at checkout instead of swiping a magnetic reader. More than 400 outlets accept the card in 63 cities throughout the state, and the launch will be accompanied by a statewide advertising campaign.
The effort is an outgrowth of Chase’s participation in MasterCard’s Paypass pilot program, which was held in Florida in 2003. The Colorado launch marks Chase’s first deployment of the technology west of the Mississippi.
