STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson said it plans to expand its W-CDMA portfolio into new and existing frequency bands to prepare for mass market uptake of mobile triple-play services as well as increased interest in W-CDMA technology in new markets.
The new frequencies Ericsson will address with its products include 850 MHz, 1800 MHz (1700 MHz for Japan) and 1.7/2.1 GHz for the United States.
“We believe that through this strategy, W-CDMA will be the leading access technology supporting mass-market services, such as telephony, broadband and TV,” said Mikael Back, vice president of W-CDMA at Ericsson.
The company said it expects products for the 850 MHz band to be available this year with the rest of the products becoming available by mid-2006.
Ericsson said its W-CDMA solutions will also support the 900 MHz and 2.5 GHz frequency bands.
