SAN JOSE, Calif.-Intel Corp. continued its push into the WiMAX arena with plans to include ArrayComm Inc.’s smart-antenna technology in its chipsets. The companies said the teaming would produce a WiMAX system with improvements in coverage and capacity.
“As industry momentum continues to build around WiMAX, we are seeing a tremendous amount of innovation happening in many different aspects of the technology,” said Scott Richardson, general manager of Intel’s Broadband Wireless Group. “We are excited to work with ArrayComm to bring their considerable experience to bear on the radio fundamentals of range and network capacity that are so critical to the success of WiMAX.”
Intel previously announced its intention to develop chips for the fixed and mobile versions of WiMAX. The company hopes to promote the technology as it did with Wi-Fi technology.
