Comverse launches integrated IM, e-mail service

NEW YORK-Comverse Technology Inc. launched an integrated messaging offering that combines instant messaging and e-mail services for wireless users.

MIMail, which is designed to mimic a PC user experience, includes IM features like status indication, multiple dialogues, icons and a chat-like interface from IM providers AOL, MSN, Yahoo! and ICQ. The offering is available for Java, BREW and Symbian platforms, and includes Comverse’s mobile IM and e-mail gateway features.

“E-mail and IM are massively popular messaging applications on the PC that bring with them a critical mass of highly enthusiastic users eager to continue their active communication lifestyle on the go,” said Benny Einhorn, Comverse’s chief marketing officer. “Integrating mobile e-mail and IM is a natural evolution in terms of user behavior since these services are to a large extent already integrated on the PC via notifications, IDs and contact lists.”
