Orange opens U.S. development centers

LONDON-European operator Orange plc said it has expanded its work with U.S. application creators with new development centers in Boston and San Francisco.

The centers, which will work within the research and development laboratories of Orange’s parent company France Telecom Group, offer tools and support for developers as well as Orange handsets and Subscriber Identity Module cards for testing applications. Orange currently has similar offices in the United Kingdom and France, and plans to open a center in the Netherlands later this year.

The move expands on a developers event Orange hosted in Florida earlier this year.

“Having recruited many U.S.-based developers at JavaOne and CTIA in San Francisco and more recently at our Code Camp event in Florida, we’re keen to maintain and indeed strengthen those relationships,” said Steve Glagow, director of Orange Partners, the operator’s developer program. “With the advent of 3G technology and the benefits of greater bandwidth, there’s huge potential to deliver richer, faster content to customers, and our developer network will have a crucial part to play in making this happen.”
