LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-Alltel Corp. announced it will sell a high-end camera phone from Nokia Corp., a move that could help Nokia bolster its shrinking market share in North America.
Alltel said it will sell Nokia’s 6255i camera phone for $130 with a two-year service agreement. The phone features a camera and video recorder, MP3 player and Bluetooth technology.
“The Nokia 6255i is a sleek flip phone with a powerful set of personalization features and tools our customers want,” said Wade McGill, Alltel’s vice president of wireless product marketing. “The Bluetooth wireless headset cuts the traditional earpiece cord and makes using the phone all the more convenient.”
Nokia’s North American market share dropped from 20 percent in the first quarter of last year to 12.9 percent in the first quarter of this year, according to research and consulting firm Strategy Analytics. The company has been working to improve that position-especially among CDMA carriers.
