Cingular Wireless first to offer RAZR Black

ATLANTA-Cingular Wireless L.L.C. will be the first wireless carrier to offer the updated version of Motorola Inc.’s most popular phone, the RAZR.

Dubbed RAZR Black, the camera phone leverages Cingular multimedia services like Picture Messaging and Cingular Sounds, enabling users to share pictures taken with the phone and download music. The phone also features video playback and integrated Bluetooth wireless technology.

Motorola debuted the RAZR Black as exclusive gifts to all directing and acting nominees for March’s 77th Annual Academy Awards. Hilary Swank, Cate Blanchett, Jamie Foxx, Clint Eastwood and others all received the handsets for the movie awards program.

“We are excited to bring Motorola RAZR Black to market on the heels of the immensely popular silver version,” said David Christopher, vice president of product management for Cingular Wireless. “With sleek sophistication, this sequel to the original delivers innovative style and compelling functionality, exclusively from Cingular.”

Starting Friday, the largest U.S. carrier will sell the phone for $200 with a two-year contract. A silver version of the phone is expected to be available in August.

Beginning in mid-July, Cingular customers can personalize the Motorola RAZR Black for $20 plus shipping and handling, Cingular will engrave the battery door of the phone with up to 20 characters and ship it to an address within four to six weeks.
