SANTA MONICA, Calif.-Wi-Fi hot-spot aggregator and software provider Boingo Wireless Inc. and Voice over Internet Protocol software developer Skype Technologies S.A. launched their Skype Zones-Powered by Boingo service offering global Wi-Fi VoIP access to Skype’s more than 45 million users at Boingo’s 18,000 hot spots around the world.
The Skype Zones offering allows users to log on to the service using Boingo’s software, which includes a Wi-Fi sniffer, connection manager and roaming authentication capabilities. Once connected, Skype Zones users can place calls and access features such as presence, global user directory, contact lists and instant messages with the Skype software.
Access to the Skype Zones service is $8 per month for unlimited use or $3 for a two-hour connection. The Skype Zones client is available for Microsoft Corp. Windows-powered computers and can be downloaded from Skype or Boingo’s Web site.
