FreeRange offers RSS for mobiles

PORTLAND, Ore.-FreeRange Communications introduced an RSS news and Weblog reader for mobile phones and personal digital assistants.

The FreeNews service allows users to receive feeds of Web information, including news, sports, weather, stock quotes and company news. FreeNews downloads only the latest information to users’ phones during each connection.

Subscribers to the service can choose information in which they are interested during the set-up process.

The service runs on most phones, including Nokia Corp., Motorola Inc., Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, LG Electronics Co Ltd., Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. and Sanyo Corp. models, said the company. The service also runs on Research in Motion Ltd. Blackberry devices and on Palm Inc. Palm OS devices that have Java installed.

FreeNews costs $20 for an annual subscription.
