SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. announced it integrated enhanced navigation technology into its line of chipsets for CDMA and W-CDMA phones. The company said the new offering will reduce the costs for building location-capable mobile phones.
“Handsets using the gpsOne enhanced navigation software enable operators to meet the increasing demand for mass-market navigation services and quickly capitalize on the lucrative enterprise navigation and fleet management markets,” said Sanjay Jha, president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. “Our integrated software significantly decreases the development costs and time to market associated with providing cost-effective consumer navigation-positioning gpsOne-based handsets as the catalyst for widespread wireless automotive and personal navigation.”
Qualcomm said the offering will be commercially available in the second half of this year on its Multimedia, Enhanced Multimedia and Convergence Platform chipsets.
