Moviegoers with Bluetooth-enabled handsets can download movie trailers, ringtones and wallpapers at three Loews Theatres this summer. Twentieth Century Fox is providing kiosks at theaters in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco that will automatically send messages to devices with activated Bluetooth technology. Users then can choose to download content from Fox and Loews without paying carrier charges. “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “Fantastic Four” and “Kingdom of Heaven” are among the films featured in the promotional pilot. WideRay Corp., which provides on-location content distribution platforms, is powering the offering.
Laura Marriott has been named the new executive director of the Mobile Marketing Association. The MMA aims to stimulate the growth of mobile marketing, m-commerce and supporting technologies. Marriott most recently served as Intrado Inc.’s director of international mobility marketing.
Gambling and lottery game publisher Win Win Gaming Inc. expects to spend $400,000 on a suite of wireless tournament offerings from Bijou Studios Inc., the companies said. Win Win agreed to purchase ClanPass, a software package that facilitates chat, messaging and instant challenges between players during tournament games. The application also can integrate third-party servers to create and manage tournament-related statistics, rankings and prizes.
DDD Group plc, which provides three-dimensional software and content, said it signed a development agreement, as well as a two-year software licensing deal with a large mobile handset manufacturer. The development agreement is valued at $900,000 for the first handset, said the company. The contract calls for DDD to integrate its software with a 3D handset that is already under development. The DDD Mobile software allows the presentation of photos, animations and movies in a 3D format on mobile phones. In a separate announcement, DDD said it has reached a licensing agreement for its software with Jamster. The content provider will offer 3D images from its portfolio that DDD technology will convert to 3D content.
